Johoney LobosLaura Matook, 49, and her nephew, 10-year-old Brandon Waters, visit the makeshift memorial Thursday, Sept. 25 for Johoney Lobos, the 19-year-old CSUN student who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver at the intersection of Lindley Avenue and Devonshire Street in Northridge on Tuesday, Sept. 23. "I didn't know this girl, but she affected a lot of people," Matook said, referring to the many candles and the turnout of neighbors and family members to the memorial. "She could be anybody's sister, or anybody's daughter. She's affecting people ... I wanted to show my nephew somebody's life was taken here." Matook, who lives in the neighborhood, feels that the area's streets are dangerous because of blind spots, obstructions, and other issues. She is especially concerned for the safety of students from neighborhood schools, such as Granada Hills High School, located a block east of the intersection. |

Marcia Mott Roberts, 42, was jailed on suspicion of driving the white SUV that struck Lobos. She was charged Thursday, Sept. 25 with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. |
